Rickenbacker 4001

Years used: 1975-1984, 2007 & 2008

Geddy’s most famous Rickenbacker bass is a Jetglo 4001 that was built in the 1970s with a Badass II bridge. Geddy used this bass from their first tour in 1974 until the Grace Under Pressure warm-up tour in 1983. He brought it back live for the performance of A Passage To Bangkok on the Snakes & Arrows tour in 2007 and 2008.

From the “Hold Your Fire” era:

“I loved the sound of the Rick for years and years, but I think I got a little bored with it, and that’s why I started using the Steinberger. The sound of the Steinberger really impressed me, and at the time I was starting to use more keyboards, and the Rick was very awkward onstage. I just grew away from it, into a slightly more complex, warmer sound.”
